Although they never recorded, the nucleus of the Detroit Emeralds (Ivory Tilmon and Abrim Tilmon Jr) originally sang as The Tilmon Brothers along with: Cleofas Tilmon, Abrim Tilmon Sr., Aaron Mapson and Raymond Ellis. Later Abrim Tilmon, Ivory Tilmon, Cleofas Tilmon and Raymond Tilmon sang as a quartet calling themselves The Emeralds, it was Ivory Tilmon and Abrim Tilmon Jr and James Mitchell that secured a recording deal in 1968 with Detroit's Ric-Tic label for their debut release Show Time as The Detroit Emeralds.
The group had two further releases on Ric-Tic before recording on the Dearborn, Michigan based Westbound label. The classy Soul/Disco You Want It, You Got It (written by Abrim Tilmon) was the sixth of seventeen for the imprint.
