Hard sounds, maximum critique, rendered with spiritual feeling, Channel One at its best. Kerrie Byles Jr. a.k.a. Junior Byles, was born 1948 in Kingston, his first recordings were in the late 1960s with the Versatiles for Joe Gibbs, Amalgamated label, it was while at Amalgamated he met Lee Perry, who was working for Gibbs at the time. After Perry left Amalgamated and set up his own production he started to record Junior Byles on some memorable solo recordings, including the massive Curly Locks. In the mid 1970s Junior Byles unfortunately began to lose his mental grip on normality, and, was for a time confined to the mental ward at Belleview Hospital in Kingston, but he managed, during his intermittent release periods, to cut some brilliant sides for various producers, the above was one such recording.
