HERE I STAND * JUSTIN HINDS & THE DOMINOES * TREASURE ISLE 7002 * UK

Born on May 7th, 1942 in the village of Steertown, Ocho Rios, Justin Hinds was turned down on his first audition by Coxsone Dodd at Studio 1, he later tried Treasure Isle, but, whether through embarrassment or pride, when Duke Reid asked him to sing an audition in the street, Hinds refused. Things were later amended and his first song Carry Go Bring Come was an instant hit, when first played at a Reid vs. Dodd sound clash it was played an incredible eight times in succession. As it turned out, up until his death in 1974, Duke Reid was a staunch supporter of Justin Hinds and the Dominos, with whom they recorded over 70 tunes, many of which stand out today as shining examples of the absolute best of 1960s Jamaican music. Here I Stand a song with uncompromising lyrics perfectly suited to Justin Hinds character was originally recorded by Wade Flemons.
