STEP FORWARD YOUTH * PRINCE JAZBO * COUNT SHELLY 057 * GB

Linval Carter a.k.a. Prince Jazzbo, or Jazbo, cut his first recordings for Coxsone Dodd in the early 1970s, and after a twenty year journey recording for many other producers, including his own productions, he was back with Dodd in the early 1990s.

Step Forward Youth, also issued in the UK on Live And Love, was cut over a Leroy Stewart vocal and was probably issued in Jamaica on his own Ujama label with the Donkey motif.

The original Jazzbo was an American radio Disc Jockey, real name Al Collins (see below) who from the 1940s through the 1950s played Jazz, Big Band and Popular music. His fourteen shows a week in 1953, when he won Metronome's Disc Jockey of the year, were broadcast by WNEW in New York. According to contemporary reviews his style was Colorful, imaginative, yet very sincere, sping discs from his 'purple grotto'.
