100 TON MEGATON * RAYMOND HARPER AND TORCHLIGHTERS * BLUE BEAT 183 * UK
Trumpeter Raymond Harper leads on 100 Ton Megaton (aka Mighty Rose) a laid back instrumental with a Boogie beat, enhanced with some sweet and mellow saxophone breaks. A top cut from Buster's favorite horn man, who, it is said, taught a young Bobby Ellis how to play while they were pupils at the Alpha Boys School. Earlier in his career Raymond Harper had played alongside other luminaries like Don Drummond, Roland Alphonso and Tommy McCook in Coburn’s Orchestra at The Bournemouth Gardens in Kingston.
NB, Raymond Harper's 100 Ton Megaton was later out-toned by Roland Alphonso with a 1000 Tons Of Megaton!
