Kojak was another entertaining, ethically updating and socially pacifying television drama from CBS, one of the official media authorities. The party line of the morals and ethics of crime were given in the show through the eponymous Lt. Theo Kojak, played by actor Telly Savalas. The series ran from 1973 to 1980 reinforcing mythologies and stereotypes while no doubt entertaining millions of news watching anxious folk, who, at the end of each episode, were left feeling vaguely reassured that the authorities were out there protecting them on those mean streets. The program must have been popular in Jamaica as there are several cuts alluding to the ridiculous character Kojak; Lee Perry did a particularly original homage.
