THE BEATITUDE * THE UNIQUES * BLANK * JA
The Beatitude (Blessed Are The Meek) with Slim Smith singing lead vocals backed by Jimmy Riley and Lloyd Charmers, is rated, along with My Conversation on the other side of the record, as his two finest recordings, which would take some gainsaying in my opinion. Produced by Bunnie Lee, the rhythm to The Beatitude has gone on to underpin many different cuts and versions, like the John Holt's I've Been Admiring You (see below) also produced by Bunnie Lee, which was released as a B side in the UK in 1973 .
According to the shorter Oxford English Dictionary, Beatitude, from the Latin beatitudo, means supreme blessedness or happiness. An ascription of special blessedness; especially those pronounced by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount, from the bible story. The song was, in fact, based on The Sermon on the Mount.
