LISTEN TO THE BUDDHA * ÖZÖ * DJM 628
The song is a spiritual chant, set to a Roots Reggae rhythm, urging the listener to adopt the teachings of Buddha, I.e. the detachment from egocentrism of the self and from subjectivity (a yearning for nothingness) as opposed from the Abrahamic religions - the Christian, Islamic, and Jewish faiths.
Ozo were an eight piece mixed race group with vocals by Kathy 'Tonto'! and Vernon Cummings played the Bongo's, Congo's and percussion. Produced by founding member of Ozo, Keni St. George and Vernon Cummings Listen To The Buddha was also issued on an album of the same name.
Although produced by Kini St. George, Listen To The Buddha was also released on UA BP 311, albeit in a slightly different form by 'Ossa', three years later in 1979. See below.
