LOVE ME FOR EVER * CARLTON AND HIS SHOES * COXSONE 7065 * GB
I am reluctant to use such over worked terms as a 'timeless-classic' but this is the very thing, play this to an audience who have never heard it before, and I'll bet few could guess when it was made. The rhythm has been used so many times that it is likely that some of that audience would have heard it in one of its latter incarnations, like the John Holt version he did for Channel One (see below), and mentally link it to that period.
Carlton Manning and his brothers Lynford and Donald were originally known as the Shades, but a misprint on an early release caused them to adopt this some what surreal signature. They only released a hand full of singles for Studio 1; Love Me Forever was a Supreme release in Jamaica. A belated album of the same name was released during the 1970s in the UK from G. Peckings Studio 1 shop in London, the LP was something of an anomaly having a British type laminated cover and a Jamaican type label on the record, it also had a catalogue number of PSOL 003, the P standing for Peckings!
