COLLINS AND THE BOYS * BOB STACKIE AND COLLINS BAND * COLLINS DOWN BEAT 0011 * UK

Produced by Clancy Collins and released on his British based Collins Down Beat imprint. Collins takes the name Down Beat (The Ruler) from Coxsone Dodd's Sound System in Jamaica, so claiming for himself the mantel of the Coxsone Dodd of British Reggae. Although he may have seen himself as the British Coxsone Dodd it was from Bunny Lee that he was getting some of his master tapes which he would sometimes over dub singers or instrumentalists. Collins And The Boys was an all Collins production and features some reasonable if a little disjointed organ and sax playing, but it's not really the music that makes this record worthy of inclusion, it's the toasting that's of historical interest as it name checks a number of British and Jamaican Sound System men who would have been playing at the time.
