1972

POWER VERSION * DENNIS ALCAPONE * J. R. P. S. [BLANK] * JA

An interesting record this one, the cut is Dennis Alcapone Dee-Jaying over the Clarendonians You Can't Be Happy, which is essentially a Rock Steady rhythm, but here, as the music has shifted into Reggae, the backing has become more Ska! - complete with the Prince Buster style tongue clicking like maracas found on many of his Ska instrumentals. So that the rhythm becomes something of a very powerful amalgam of Ska, Rock Steady and Reggae. The record is a Coxsone production with a 'Jamaica Recording and Publishing Studio Ltd'. stamp on the next side - which, incidentally is Toomb Stone by Clue J and His Blasters a Cariboo release from 1960 - the stamps visible in the image above are of a shop L & H Nathan Ltd 143 Drury Lane WC2 (London). Do any of you dreads out there remember this shop selling Pre's in the heart of town?
