After her debut on Nomar, Maxine Brown had eight singles released on the ABC Paramount label (one of which was issued in the UK on HMV) and one release on the Musictone label before signing to Wand. Ask Me was her first Wand release and she recorded with Wand for the next three years. The above, co written by Tony Bruno, who wrote and produced many of her records including All In My Mind, has a slow burn which builds up in intensity and an arrangement, including oboe's and bells, very much like Irma Thomas's Imperial recordings.
