Marva Whitney was part of the James Brown Revue during the late 1960's and 70s her powerful and expressive voice was a prefect match for James Brown's. The A side of this record, It's My Thing, provided her first with her first hit and is very much a Funky precursor to some of her 1970s recording. Although not quite a ballad Ball Of Fire is a sweet Soul song, despite what the title might suggest.
