COME AND GET THESE MEMORIES * MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS * ORIOLE 1819 * UK
Written by the soon to be world famous writing team of Holland, Dozier and Holland, Come And Get These Memories was Martha and the Vandellas second release on the Gordy label, released February 1963, and their second in the UK, released April 1963.
Martha Reeves was born one of eleven children in Alabama, but raised in Detroit (The Motor City). She started out singing with the Sabre-Ettes and occasionally used the name Martha Laverne; after which she joined the Delphis, and from there the Vels. This Holland Dozier Holland song was to be the first in a very long line of hits for Martha Reeves and helped to establish the name of Tamla Motown in Great Britain.
