GEE WHIZ (LOOK AT HIS EYES) * CARLA THOMAS * ATLANTIC 2086 * USA

The daughter of Rufus Thomas, Carla was born in 1942, and as a ten year old she sang with the Teen-Town Singers. She left the group at eighteen and cut Cause I Love You / Deep Down Inside with her father, for the proto Stax label Satellite # 102. She then recorded Gee Whiz, a emotionally moving ballad with lyrics that make the most of her youthful voice, for Satellite (the same song had already been turned down by Vee Jay). It was a song she had written when only sixteen, only sixteen, she was only sixteen, it was issued in 1960 as Satellite 104, then later in the year it was put out on the Atlantic label.

Released in Great Britain on London Atlantic 9310 (see below) Carla Thomas was a complete unknown in the UK at the time and it's not surprising that this record never sold well considering there was no Pop radio at the time.
