The Marvelettes gave Tamla Motown their first national number one with Please Mr. Postman, I Want A Guy - previously recorded by the Supremes on Tamla 54038 - is the flip side of Twistin' Postman their follow up. The original line up of the group was Gladys Horton and Wanda Young who were both lead singers, Georgeanna Tillman, Katherine anderson and Juanita Cowart, by the time Twistin' Postman was released, in December 1961, the group numbered just three - incidentally To Hurt To Cry, To Much In Love To Say Good Bye released on the Gordy label in November 1963 as by The Darnells is actually the Marvelettes.
