Marlena Shaw was born Marlena Burgess in New York 1942, and sang with the Count Basie band in the late 1960s, Mercy Mercy Mercy, was her second record for the Chess Brothers, released in the US on their Cadet imprint # 5557. After leaving Chess she signed with the Jazz label Blue Note.
