STARDUST * SHIRLEY ELLIS * LONDON 10021 * UK
It seems like a bit of a wasted talent to me that Shirley Ellis cut so many novelty songs, her voice was capable of better material, but, if it brought her what she wanted who am I to complain. What I have got to be thankful for is that she did cut some material that I do like, like the above old standard written in c1924 by Hoagy Carmichael & lyrics by Mitchell Parish, it was issued as the B side of those silly novelty numbers, which incidentally she co wrote. To be honest I probably would never have given this side much time when it came out, but as my tastes have enlarged over the years lyrics and arrangements like this now appeal to me very much.
