STAY WITH ME * LORRAINE ELLISON * WARNER BROS. 5850 * UK
Born Marybelle Luraine Ellison in 1931, Lorraine Ellison first recorded with the Ellison Singers for Herman Lubinsky's Newark NJ, based independent Sharp label in 1963. Stay With Me - is said to be recorded at an opportune moment when a fully orchestrated studio was going spare as Frank Sinatra failed to show for session and Miss Ellison was able to step into the breach. The song was her second for Mercury and hit number 12 on the R&B charts in the US, and although it never charted in the UK (no real gauge to sales) it was played nightly in every dance hall and club across the capitol.
Originally released in the US on Warner Bros. 5850 in September 1966, then on the 4th of November in the UK.
