Justine 'Baby' Washington, a.k.a. Jeanette, was born 13 November 1940,
Bamberg, South Carolina, she grew up in Harlem and it was there, in 1956, that
she started recording with The Hearts, the group included Rex Garvin on piano. Her first solo record came a year
later on the New York, independent label, J&S, owned by Zell Sanders. The
above was her first British issue on the, some say, bootleg, Sue label, a label which
became a favourite in the small discothèques (the word 'discothèques' was new then and had a
lot of cache) in and around Soho, London.
