WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG AND IN LOVE * RUBY AND THE ROMANTICS * LONDON 9935 * UK

Written by Van McCoy and released on Kapp Records USA, this was Ruby and The Romantics seventh release on the label, and laid down the template for a succession of cover versions and sound-alike songs, most of which were in the so called middle of the road style, which have unfortunately, and understandably, tended to create a kind of retrospective aversion to these originals. The Marvelettes cover version (see below) was more successful on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching # 23, while The Romantics original had only managed #48.

Ruby and The Romantics went on to have another seven singles released on Kapp, until they moved to ABC in 1967.
