WHERE THERE'S A WILL THERE'S A WAY * SEDATRIOUS BROWN * ROULETTE 4636 * USA
I have on a scrap of paper somewhere the name Sedatrius Brown, though I doubt very much it is spelt that way, that I hastily wrote down one night, as I often did, after asking the DJ who or what was the record being played. After a few years and many of these scraps with various names on, some familiar others obscure, I gradually came to realize that some of these records I would never be likely to hear again, let alone buy a copy of, yet a few of the obscure names remained persistently lodged in my memory, the name Sedatrius Brown was one such name. Then in the 1990s when the WWW began to open up undreamt of opportunities for Soul music fans in England to research and buy records from America I just had to go after some of these exotic names that I had scribbled down, often wrongly spelt, all those years ago.
Sedatrius Brown (wrongly spelt on the above record) is still an obscure artist with an exotic name, who it seems made at least two excellent records in the 1960s. Where There's A Will There's A Way was the first, it's a beautiful heart lifting Soul ballad with a great build that rises and falls getting ever more passionate expression from the delectably named Sedatrius Brown.
