DREAMLAND * THE WAILERS * UPSETTER 271 * UK

Although credited to Bunny Wailer as the writer Dreamland is actually My Dream Island first recorded by The El Tempos for Vee Jay in 1964.

When the Wailers collaborated with Lee Perry, a dramatic shift occurred in their music this had something to do with the new psychedelic sounds Bob Marley was listing to like: Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, but it was mostly the influence of Lee Perry himself. He got them to drop all the pseudo acrobatics in the vocals, both from Marley's lead vocals and the harmonizing, and focus on a direct expression of what they wanted to say. He also rained in the excessive brass sound found in earlier music and honed it down to the complex but minimal sound that came to be the familiar sound of Reggae.
