This version of Joe Simon's (You Keep Me) Hangin' On, recorded for Sound Stage 7 in 1968, follows the original closely even sounding like it was recorded in a vast empty chamber giving it a pleasing echo effect which adds to the despondency in the songs lyrics. It was produced by Lee Perry who was proficient in creating extraordinary and unexpected sounds nearly always to good effect; and showed that he didn't just embellish for its own sake and where it was unnecessary as on this cut which already came with its own distinctive sound, as it were.
