Breathless was originally released in the USA on Sun 288 in February 1958 as by Jerry Lee Lewis And His Pumping Piano (the additional title was not included on the British issue) it was only his fourth release since recording for Sun Records in 1956.
AKA 'The Killer' Jerry Lee lives up to his moniker with his 'Pumping Piano' on this one, sung with energy and passion, possibly with his paramour in mind giving the song an extra thrust. Breathless spent fifteen weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 reaching the number 7 spot and also went to number 3 on the R&B chart.
