LET'S HAVE A PARTY * WANDA JACKSON * CAPITOL 15147 * UK

Recorded a year after Elvis Presley cut the song for a film sound track, this Rockabilly version is generally accepted to be a superior version. Although the lyrics are possibly more suited to a male singer because of the verse "I never kissed a bear, I never kissed a goon, but I can shake a chicken in the middle of the room" coming from a twenty year old girl it gives it flavor! (sounds like my type of party). Wanda Jackson was from Oklahoma, and started recording Country songs in 1954 two years later after some encouragement from a young Elvis she began recording Rock & Roll, and while she carried on cutting Country songs she had a six year fling with Rock & Roll recording some excellent hot rockin' discs including the explosive Fujiyama Mama, before returning to Country full time.
