Chuck Jackson's first for Florence Greenberg's newly formed Wand imprint a rich soulful sound with the pathos and tragedy of the song augmented by a violins and cellos. Surprisingly it was a producer and arranger, Dave Bartholomew, from the South who helped pioneer the use of stings and choruses on R&B recordings that eventually became standard for the sophisticated uptown Soul cuts like the above.
