I WON'T CRY * JOHNNY ADAMS * CHARLY 102 * UK
Johnny Adams started singing with the gospel group The Soul Revivers in his hometown of New Orleans. In the mid-1950's, he sang with another Gospel outfit: Beside Griffin and her Soul Consolators, after which Dorothy La Bostrie, a songwriter (she cleaned up Little Richard's lyrics on Tutti Fruitti for public consumption) persuaded him to sing a song of hers Oh Why which he recorded for the independent Ric label. The session was produced by an eighteen year old Mac Rebennack (later to be known as Dr. John) the song was re-titled as I won't Cry. Johnny Adams died in 1998
