OUT OF SIGHT * JAMES BROWN AND HIS ORCHESTRA* PHILIPS 1368 * UK

Issued on Smash 1919 in the US this is an example of how, through popular black music, new words and phrases are brought into general use. Just as Stevie Wonder popularized the term Uptight (meaning that everything is fine), and in Papa's Got A Brand New Bag James Brown's use of the 'bag' concept was to catch on with everyday speach, here on Out Of Sight (meaning tremendous, sensational, really good) he is again turning his listeners on to hip black talk. The phrase 'out of sight', or 'outa sight' was used on many records, in the media and especially in print during the decade and beyond.
