The vocal styling on Rome shows just how much influence Sam Cooke had on his contemporaries and a younger generation of Soul singers, Johnnie Taylor, perhaps, as much as anyone as he had taken Sam Cooke's place in the Soul Stirrers after his departure. Although the influence of Sam Cook has to be aknowledged it matters not as these early sides by Johnnie Taylor are beautiful Soul recordings and want for nothing, except more please.
