THE BIG HURT * TONI FISHER * TOP RANK 261 * UK

The eccentric sound of this Countryish ballad must have arrested the ears of those who heard it in the late 1950s as it was one of the first records to use electronic phasing techniques - so called 'phlange phasing'. Jimmy Hendrix has said in an interview that he was taken by this record when he heard it played on the radio as a young man still at home practicing on his guitar. Released in February 1959 on the tiny independent Signet label in the US it was written and produced by Wayne Shanklin, and gave the 28 year old Miss Toni Fisher a world wide hit reaching # 3 on the Billboard Pop charts and number 30 on the British charts.
