I DON'T WANNA FUSS * SUGAR PIE DESANTO * PYE INTERNATIONAL 25267 * GB

Sugar Pie Desanto (what a name, pure 50s) was from San Francisco, and, perhaps because her mother was African American and her father was Filipino, that at birth she was given the somewhat unusual name Umpeylia Marsema Balinton. Picked out by that notorious developer of fine young talent Johnny Otis, who gave her the stage name of Little Miss Sugar Pie, and in 1955 she had her recording debut Boom Diddy Wa Wa Baby, for him on Federal Records #12216, as Sugar Pie & Hank (Henry Houston) with  Preston Love & His Orchestra. The above was her twentieth single in the US, the sixth for Checker, and only her second in the UK.
