This famous song was originally written by the French poet Jacques Prevert as Les Feuilles Mortes, with music by Joseph Kosma; it was written for the film Les Portes de La nuit directed by Marcel Carné in 1946. Johnny Mercer adapted the lyrics in English, his version was used in a film of the same name staring Joan Crawford, and has been recorded by countless artists since, among the first were Mel Torme and Nat King Cole.
