1956

DIMPLES * JOHN LEE HOOKER * STATESIDE 297 * UK

Originally released on Vee Jay # 205, Dimples and the A side Baby Lee was recorded on March 27th 1956, and when released in Great Britain almost a decade later became a big favourite with Mods in night clubs like the Flamingo and the Scene. Although John Lee Hooker had had a couple of records released on the 78 RPM format in Britain in the early 1950s they would have been virtually unknown outside of a small specialist audience, and certainly not played on modern equipment in the new Discothèques, it was the release of Boom Boom in 1963 that established his name with the dancers in the new breed of clubs.
