A Dodd production originally issued in Jamaica on Sensational. Count Ossie was born Oswald Williams, March 1926, St. Thomas, Jamaica, he died October 18, 1976, after being involved in a motor car accident. Count Ossie was a master drummer and founder of the Rasta community in Wareika Hills. He was often seen around the ghetto's and across the island of Jamaica during the 1950's, taking part in Rastafarian 'grounations', impromptu gatherings where the brethren and sistren would chant and give praises unto Jah. Rasta music has its roots in traditional music from Africa called Burru music. Count Ossie was crucial in developing this particular form of West Indian Rastafarian music, as a young man he would experiment with different rhythms, and when he came under the influence of a master Buru drummer called Brother Job, his talents developed into a very influential form of drumming, which was to permeate much of the music of the next generation.
