MR LONELY * THE JAMAICANS * ESCORT 806 * UK

The Jamaicans were Tommy Cowan, Norris Weir and Martin Williams - they added Owen Hylton to their number for the four sides they cut for Coxsone Dodd in 1965 - as part of the Duke Reid stable they were one of the top vocal groups during the Rock Steady era. Produced by Harry Johnson Mr. Lonely is a good example of the Early Reggae fast musical rhythm with contrasting slow Rock Steady influenced vocals. Tommy Cowan went on to become an important producer with his Talent, Arab Sweet City and Starapple labels.
