The Harder They Come was written by Jimmy Cliff and used to great effect in the magnificent film of the same name in which Jimmy Cliff himself stared as the working class hero of the people 'Ivanhoe Martin'. The story is based very much on real events and also gives an accurate picture of the struggles and sufferation in the Jamaican music business at the time, as is the later film Rockers. It's a pity those dire 'teen' films featuring black singers that were made in America during the 1950s and 60s pretending to portray the 'ups and downs' of the music business, didn't reflect even half the truth of the exploitation of talent and living labour of the artists by capital.. If you haven't seen this film yet then buy, rent, download a copy today, there can be no excuse.
