Released in the USA on Motown 1056 (see below) March 28th 1964 and just over a month later in the UK on 8th May. My Guy was a massive hit in America, Europe and the British Isles, written and produced by Smoky Robinson it was influential in Berry Gordy promoting him to vice president. Although it was Mary Wells' first number 1 Pop hit and Motown's biggest seller to date, it was also her last official release for the company. No matter, the song is a perfect piece of Motown Soul, and, backed by Andantes with music by The Funk brothers, Mary Wells gives the performance of a lifetime on this one record.
