Written by Otis Blackwell and (Elvis Presley) and recorded on July 2, 1956 at RCA studios in New York City, along with his cover of Willie Mae Thornton's Hound Dog, and originally released on RCA 13th of July 1956 on Victor 47-6604 backed with Hound Dog - the original release came with a picture sleeve.
The above is an official RCA 1970 reissue. Both sides became number 1 hits, Hound Dog first, followed by Don't Be Cruel (the only record ever to have both sides reach #1) Don't Be Cruel was also #1 on the R&B and Country charts!
Although the Jordanaires group accompanied Elvis Presley on many records, they did not accompany him on Don't be Cruel, though they did release their own version of the song in 1962 (see below).
