A MAN NEEDS A WOMAN * JAMES CARR * BELL 1004 * UK

Ten of James Carr's fourteen 1960s singles charted, Pop or R&B, in the US, the highest was his 1969 cut of Freedom Train #39. Seen from the perspective of many other Soul acts of the time this was quite a good run, yet James Carr wasn't able to break through to a higher profile and remained a cult figure for all of his career. A tortured love song A Man Needs A Woman was written by Obie Burnett McClinton (an American Country singer, known as 'The Chocolate Cowboy') who also wrote Carr's You Got My Mind Messed Up.
