I'M LOOKING FOR MY BABY * SYL JOHNSON * FEDERAL 12476 * USA
Sylvester Thompson a.k.a. Syl Johnson cut his first record for the Federal label in 1959, I'm Looking For My Baby was his sixth and last on the imprint. Released as the B side to a cover of James Brown's Please Please Please the song is one of those recordings that have a kind of 'off centre' sound sometimes found in Soul music Sea Of Love is one example, Letter To Mommy And Daddy is another. I would describe the sound on this one as a kind of looping stop and go, sort of trippy, but not psychedelic.
