SOOKIE SOOKIE * DON COVAY * ATLANTIC 4078 * UK

Don Covay (born Donald Randolph?) had sung along side Marvin Gaye and Billy Stewart in the Rainbows, before singing solo with The Little Richard Reveue in 1957, his first solo recording (produced by Richard) was that same year when he cut Bip Bop Bip as 'Pretty Boy' for Atlantic #1147. It was his only release for Atlantic  until he transferred back to them from the Rosemart label in 1965. Written by Steve Cropper and Covay  Sookie Sookie, his fourth for the label, gets a bit 'way out' lyrically by Soul standards but has a real Funky dance beat.
