WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED * JIMMY RUFFIN * TAMLA MOTOWN 577 * UK
Released in the UK in September 1966 What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted was Jimmy Ruffin's first British single release, his fourth in the US. Though the song was destined for The Spinners, Jimmy Ruffin, who had been at Motown since the beginning of the decade with no success, persuaded the songs writer James Dean to let him recorded it. At the time of its recording Jimmy Ruffin was working on the assembly line at The Ford Motor plant, and in his own words, "At the time my career wasn't going too well and I was getting kicked around quite a bit financially and I really was like a person lost" but on the strength of this recording his fortunes turned around and the man who turned down a place in The Temptations with his brother David, was now a star in his own right.
