THE BOY FROM NEW YORK CITY * THE AD LIBS * BLUE CAT 102 * USA

Although some members of the group had recorded previously as The Creators this was The Ad Libs first record, and it hit the turntables running, at least as far as the Mods in Southern England were concerned. The Boy From New York City was their sound, it is another of those songs that valorised the virtues of a cool, hip and, more importantly,  independent boy. This was someone the Mods, boys and girls, liked to identify with; as they did with Mohair Sam and the first person in The In Crowd; both of these songs were a more realistic description, but none the less a proud and self affirming portrait of a man than earlier examples that the first wave of Modernist's identified with, like: Gene Chandler's Duke Of Earl.

Released in the US on Blue Cat December 1964, and in the UK just two month later on Red Bird, 5th February 1965 (see below).
