I'M GONE * SHIRLEY AND LEE * BLANK * JA
Shirley Mae Goodman and Leonard Lee were the
prototype of the boy/girl duets poplar during the 1950s and early 60s, and while
they were not an item like, say, Gene & Eunice,
their songs were often pitched like they were lovers. I'm Gone was
the duo's first release for Aladdin #3153, and is seen here on an old
Jamaican 'boot', which by the ummpf of it was cut from an original 78. Records
like this were often cut in small quantities during the 1950s by Sound System
operators who would give copies to the various DJ's in their charge. The
song was later covered in Jamaica which eventually found it's way onto the
exceptionally good Dub album Shalom Dub.
