WESTERN MOVIES * THE OLYMPICS * HIS MASTER'S VOICE 528 * UK
The groups first record was I Can Tell for a very small LA label Melatone, then they were calling themselves The Challengers, and I Can Tell was released as by Walter Ward And The Challengers, Walter Ward being the lead singer. Changing their name to The Olympics and signing with a slightly bigger La label: Demon, the group released Western Movies, a novelty R&B number name-checking all the TV westerns that were popular at the time. The record was an instant success both nationally and internationally both in the Pop and R&B markets, reaching number eight on the Pop carts and number seven R&B in the States and number twelve on the British charts.
