YOUNG BLOOD * THE COASTERS * LONDON 8450 * GB
Recorded at the second Coasters session for Atco in Los Angeles 12 February 1957 with Carl Gardner; lead tenor, Young Jessie; Baritone, Bobby Nunn; bass, backed with Searchin' and originally released on Atco 6087 Young Blood was the groups third for the label. Given that the song is clearly and unequivocally about an older man/men lusting after an adolescent girl/s it could be seen as surprising that Young Blood was a million seller reaching # 1 on Billboard's R&B chart and #24 on their Hot 100, did so many people share those sentiments then? and what would be the reaction if a song with similar lyrics today?
