FIGHT TOO MUCH * JUSTIN HINDS & THE DOMINOES * TREASURE ISLE 7005 * GB
Justin Hinds named his group The Dominoes after the game and the singer Fats Domino, who was one of his early influences. Born in 1942 Justin Hinds grew up listing to the likes of Fats Domino, Louis Jordan and Smiley Lewis, and church songs with his father, who Hinds tells us was a deeply spiritual man. Justin Hinds has fused the spiritual and cultural from his church association and the easy popular sound of Fats Domino et al into a powerful style all of his own; interesting because Fats Domino is not known for overtly social, spiritual or politically militant songs, whereas many of Justin Hinds compositions fall in to one or all of those categories.
