TWELVE MINUTES TO GO * DUKE REID GROUP * BLUE BEAT 119 * UK

As on Twelve Minutes To Go, house bands or scratch bands were often given generic names on record like the above Duke Reid Group. This is an early formation of the musicians that were to become known as The Skatalites, often led by Don Drummond, who were, along with others bringing into being a totally new musical form that was shortly to become known across the Western world as Ska.

A classy instrumental with some top horn solos Twelve Minutes To Go has a slightly slower beat than latter Ska recordings with that laid back 'Shuffle' sound - it is often speeded up on reissues under the name of the Skatalites- and yet all the Ska music elements are in place and just waiting for the right moment to ignite.
