BEAT DOWN BABYLON * JUNIOR BYLES * UPSETTER 377 * UK
Although Beat Down Babylon was only issued as a B side it was none the less popular enough to have an album of the same name released on Trojan containing nine other tracks by Junior Byles all produced by Lee Perry. Something of a landmark recording in the history of the musical war between art and oppression (Babylon); there's also a subtle word play in the title with the verb 'beat'; as a tautology it binds the meaning tighter making it more effective. Junior Byles revisited the theme a few years later with the more Root'sy Chant Down Babylon.
